October is Filipino American History Month (FAHM), which marks the anniversary of the first arrival of Filipinos in America at Morro Bay, California in the 1500s. FAHM is a time to celebrate the rich history and culture that the Filipino community embodies.
Led by Filipinos at Riot (FAR), our employee resource group of Filipino Rioters and allies, Riot held a variety of events for Filipinos to come together. Here’s everything FAR put together for Filipino American History Month this year.
Filipino Cultural Showcase
With cultural artwork on display and dancers visiting our Los Angeles headquarters, this event was a major highlight of FAHM this year. Rioters came together to watch the dances, eat a themed meal at NOMs that celebrated Filipino cuisine, and take a beat to appreciate Filipino culture.
Through examples in art and dance, Filipino American History Month serves as an opportunity to celebrate the rich Filipino culture while emphasizing the significance of unity in the community. pic.twitter.com/Tpl2ym9pJ9

Karaoke Night
Rioters joined together with Filipinos in Games, a group outside of Riot which aims to create community for Filipinos within the games industry, to sing the night away.
Filipinos At Riot celebrated #FAHM23 with our first ever karaoke night! It was awesome to see so many faces from the greater Filipino game dev community at the event.

Spotlighting FAR on Social Media
There are tons of incredible Rioters involved with FAR and we can’t showcase all of them, but the RIG took the time to highlight a few members during the celebration this year. Working across teams ranging from Teamfight Tactics social to business strategy, here are some of the FAR members talking about Filipino culture, the importance of RIGs, and their personal connection to their culture from across the Pacific.
We spoke to Teamfight Tactics Social Strategist Kristine E. about what she cherishes the most about being Filipino and how traditions keep her close with family and friends. 🇵🇭 #FAHM23 pic.twitter.com/d1lRsPMyLG

NOMs Themed Lunch
Throughout the year, NOMs always goes all out to create unique menus that celebrate big moments such as cultural celebrations, game releases, and other creative culinary opportunities. For this month, the team on the grill served up some pork adobo, garlic fried rice, and vegetable pancit, among other delicious dishes.
